I read today about three new scientific developments: British scientists are going to try to restore damaged hearts with the patients own
stem cells, blind mice regained sight when treated with retina cell implants and the natural chemical resveratrol showed anti-aging
in a mammal ( mice) for the first time.
But that's not all- I can see that women are gradually attaining equality with men, as shown by Condoleeza Rice, Nancy Pelosi
and Hillary Clinton's upcoming run for the White House. You may not like their politics but women are gaining offices they never held
before.
The above is just a small example of how rapidly the world is changing. In contrast, I picked up my Nov 15 Watchtower and read it.
It's as if the 'outside world' doesn't exist, as if the Watchtower writers are caught up in a private world that is drifting into
a kind of psychosis, a dreamy isolated landscape they enjoy, while human progress passes them by.
Elders are portrayed as "loving shepherd" - oblivious to the wreckage they cause to families by disfellowshipping (pg 29, 30)
Chidren are portrayed as cute, obedient little Witness clones (pg 31) - ignoring the massive exodus of young people out
of the "truth". Homosexuality is a "sin against God" (pg 6) The rest of the magazine has declined into a sort of formulaic
rehash of past Watchtower admonitions. Remember, now, don't look at internet porn! Brothers, do you really think anyone
is listening? If they were, why are you endlessly repeating yourselves?
These people "see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil" in their own little imaginary world. Everything is rosy and cheery
in Watchtowerland - which might as well be part of DisneyWorld ( Fantasyland). Reform? There is no need to reform
a fantasy. That's not what fantasies are about.
Will they ever wake up to reality? Is the Writing Staff and Governing Body on heavy anti-depressants? Every Watchtower seems to
get more detached from the real world in which medical miracles are advancing, women are fufilling men's jobs and the world is
passing the Watchtower by, as a relic of the 1900's.
