I think that what will happen eventually, is that the US will strike a temporary deal with Syria and Iran. We will then move 50-75,000 troops in Iran up north to protect the oil fields since its in our best interests, and we will charge them in oil for doing so. Then we will leave the rest of the country to themselves. What do you think is going to happen?

That sounds like a plan.

The country will be divided into three regions - Shiite, Sunni and Kurd. Kurdistan will emerge as an independent state. The Sunnis will be
poor, violent and aggrieved. If the US is smart, they will stop trying to improve the inherently violent and ugly Arab "culture" and simply
play the Sunnis off against the Shiites and encourage them to kill each other while Kurdistan emerges as a peaceful, oil rich state.

Eventually they will just totally withdraw all the troops at once, cold turkey, just like Vietnam. It is the only way. A slow, drawn-out withdrawal just won't work.
