My cousin is a jehovahs witness. His girlfriend is only 16 and she is a jehovahs witness too. They have sex and stuff and they said they want to tell there elders so they can confess but he is afraid her parents will charge him with statutory rape. She isnt baptized or nothing, and she doesnt even live with her witness parents. They have every other weekend visitation of her. I tell my cousin to just keep quiet. Do elders tell the parents, or will they not since she doesnt even live with them, and he could go to jail???

You'd better believe that A) they will be DF'ed as quick as you can (except the girl since she's not baptised, but she will be marked/shunned), B) EVERYONE including the parents will know exactly why. There are no secrets in that org despite all their claims. In fact, their 'sins' will likely be exagerated greatly be the time the gossip factory is done with them.

Tell you cousin to keep his mouth shut tight, and either quit having sex with that young girl or at least please be sure and wear a condom!

Hi Don't Know: Much depends here on the age difference between your cousin and his girfriend. If she is 16, and he is say 18, then many states have statutory rules that allow for an age difference between consenting young people of about 5 to 7 years. Also some states have minium ages for minor consent, and that can range from 14 to 18.

Example: Suppose you have a girl who is 17 years, 11 months, and 364 days old (still technically 17) and a boy who is 18 years and 1 day old. There is only 2 days between their ages, but technically he is 18 and she is still 17. If the law said that this was statutory rape, then a lot of high school kids would go to jail. So many states have developed rules that allow for some common sense.

HOWEVER! If you cousin is 21 or older, say 23, or 27 or 30, then he "may" be in another danger of being guilty of child molestation, again depending on where states draw the line for what is considered a 'child' verses a minor who is able to make some stupid choices.

I recommend that you cousin immediately see a lawyer!!! He can call Legal Aid or the Bar Association in his state to get referred to an attorney who who allow an initial free consultation. If he is okay legally, then great, if not, then he needs the lawyer more than ever. The JW Elders are the least of his concerns. The girl, the parents, and the law are far and above more important than any religious organization.

Please, please urge your cousin to talk with a lawyer and get proper legal advice that would be according to the state he lives in. let us know how it goes. - Amazing

    Hi DK,

Going to the Elders will really mess this situation up.
As thier friend though, tell them to be SURE of what they
are doing now. If they think they have problems now.....
wait until a kid comes along due to unprotected sex.

And yes, its rape at the tender age of 16.
