WT thinks wife a "burden"?

After the belittling of women in this weeks Witchtower babble study, I got to thinking.

I remembered a magazine from the late 50s or early 60s discussing "marry only in the Lord".

It said that if a man marries a non-believer, he would have to "bear his onerous burden" until Jehovah relieves him of it at Armageddy. (i.e. Jehovah will bless him by killing his wife.)

I extrapolate from this that the WTBTS views a wife as a burden, either welcome, or onerous, depending on her religious stand. Jgnat - enjoy your man while he still has you....

Women in the troof are so lucky, they get to cook clean and keep house for their Man, all in exchange for being "poinked" in missionary for five minutes two or three times a week.

They are considered a burden, "tribulation in the flesh." One who has one should act as if he didn't have one. And all should "carry on as men."

You are right, I got that impression too about the WT that they felt having a wife was a burden. But, it is really against human nature (as evidenced by the fact that most people want to marry). You are also right about the "5 minutes a week" comment. I heard as much about some who married unwisely. Who needs it.

No disrespect intended to anybody celibate, but, what I did notice was that there were some professional virgins in Bethel and I think they were trying to accommodate them and their deep-seated psychological problems regarding women. This discomfort or distrust of women is at the heart of many of the articles printed that have a distinctly "anti female" message.

I just wonder do most people want to marry or most people just want to have sex?

Well, from a wt standpoint, I guess a wife would be a burden. It's like slavery in the 1800s. They needed to use shackles, whips, abusive language, and other cruel methods to hold on to their "property." Failure to utilize these burdensome methods meant lower productivity or the loss of their flesh and blood property. It's the same with the wt today. Since they treat women as second class creatures, it's a burden to hold one in submission.
