Little Drummer Boy and I are music lovers. He plays drums (really well), and I love to sing (not as well as I'd like); I was involved in band from 6th grade until I graduated from high school, then I was in our city's Citizen's Band. I played the Clarinet (really well), and I really loved being in the Citizen's Band; I cried when I called to quit because we were new "in the truth" and I couldn't be in it anymore because they played patriotic songs and rehearsal was always on Thursday nights.

Little Drummer Boy was in a rock band for several years, but had to quit also cuz of the Dubs. We're resentful that the borg took away our connection to music. Are any of you in a band? What do you play? What type of music? What kind of gigs do you do?

We play in a small ensemble. We used to play in our local orchestra, but we don't have the time this year. We play classical, folk and old-time music mostly because that's what lends itself best to our ensemble's makeup.

I've been in a total of three bands. The first one was in the high school rock band. I auditioned and got the part. The second one was a result from being exposed by the HS band. I also played guitar in that one. The third one was about two or three years ago. I couldn't stand the guitar and bass player, so we went our seperate ways after recording a CD.

I'm now doing my own solo work where I play and write everything. Although it's going slow, it's getting done. I haven't had any time as of late since the little one arrived and Xmas is around the corner, but I'm hoping to get a bit of time in the new year to get working on it again. The songs are fantastic, and probably the best ones I've ever written!

I was in a band from 2000 to Dec 2005. Then I started a new job which requires me to work Friday and Saturday nights. Those are the main days for a band to make money here in Florida. I should be getting Friday and Saturdays off after the first of the year so I will go back to playing in a band on the weekend. I play in bars, honky tonks. I sing and play bass guitar or guitar or keyboards. I play cover music from the 60's to the present. Jimmy buffet to jimmy Hendrix, Rolling stones, lynrd skynrd. Lenny kravitz, Chuck Berry, the band that I play with most often can play about a hundred different songs. You can get buy and make money with as few as about 30 songs. We play from 9:30 to 1:30. 45 minutes on 15 minutes off, If you bring a crowd or get a crowd to follow you then the club will have you back. Last year when I was playing we'd play every weekend Friday and Saturday. That was my spending money or mad money. For me playing music in a band can be the most enjoyable thing in this life. But its hard to make a living at it. Clubs will cancel you at the last minute. And your dealing with 3 to 5 people with varying degrees of committment. No one is totally committed because, it is pretty much a hobby. 90% of the work is on Friday and Saturday nights. The economics make it a supplementary income for most. Or a poverty income for any who try to make it full time here in Florida. Working as a 3 piece is the most hassel free but somewhat limited on the amount of talent. 4 to 5 with a female singer is a lot of talent but more baggage. And their can be a lot of baggage with 5 people trying to be stars on stage. The crew that I work with there are 3 of us including me. Guitar, bass and drum, we can do a show like that then we add a female if she shows and brings people thats great if she doesnt we can do it with out her. You got to be versatile and adaptable to work in the music business on the local level.

My exhusband played in a kewl band in Texas called the "Hitchhikers" a long time ago. I play keyboards, although it's been awhile.

A good friend of ours, that went to high school with us is the keyboard player in Tim McGraw's band, Dance Hall Doctors. Look for Jeff, he has the long blond hair.

I remember when he, and my ex, were both band geeks. I wouldn't give either one of them the "time of day" my senior year!!
