Dysfunction and being at home

A colleague recently noted, when the topic of jws came up, that one reason discussed for the higher representation of jws requiring health care for psychosomatic disorder, self harm and mental illness, was that these are the people at home when they call.

It was suggested that the higher level of social dysfunction is not so much generated, but gathered, as it it these people who are at home or who have the type of time it takes to become jws.

Interesting thought. I would imagine as well these are people who are desperate for companionship and hope. And the jw's provide the illusion of both.

There's a scripture about that actually

For among them are those who make their way into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and swayed by various impulses, who will listen to anybody and can never arrive at a knowledge of the truth.

Fascinating thread. Do you know where that scripture is so I can show my mother? I have never read that before.

    2 Timothy 3:6

    -------------------------------------------

I noticed another scripture today that seems to sum up the wtbts

If any one teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching which accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit, he knows nothing; he has a morbid craving for controversy and for disputes about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, base suspicions, and wrangling among men who are depraved in mind and bereft of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.

Wonderful scriptures!! I love it. Don't forget, kids, the JWs are not swayed by scriptures... but by what the WTBTS has put in black and white. Unless they might have changed it recently. With new light. Well, yes, they were wrong, but... they are imperfect, after all.

    AGH!!!

Wait a minute... are you saying they actually get converts from going door-to-door??? I thought that was a fruitless endeavor! Seriously, the thread brings up an interesting theory, but I think the statistics on door-to-door contacts becoming baptised Witnesses would be very low.

They obviously get converts.......have in the past at least.........no doubt dysfunction is past on down with the next generation (whenever that may be)

The subsequent generation is taught strange beliefs which they by nature rebel against, they are denied education that can empower them, they're given a skewed view of the 'outside world', and distrust for people generally as even their closest friends are liable to 'rat them out' at the drop of a hat. Add that to having a needy and dysfunctional parent and the situation is much worse than when the door was first answered twenty-five years before.

I don't know if being home more has anything to do with anything. It could, but i'm no expert. I do think that basing your life on a collection of Byzantine lies takes its toll on a person. Just because a jw is trained to ignore doubts and use thought-stopping when a critical thought comes up, doesn't mean that there isn't someone inside realizing they are living a lie. Plus, I think the desire to see this old system come to an end so they can finally enjoy life makes imagine every ache and pain is something greater than it is.
