"The trial was a pig circus, he never had a chance" (B.Dylan) Of course it was not a just and proper trial. When the judge is saying things like "we don't need a trial, we just need a hanging" then what do people expect? If anything, it has shown up the US attitude to proper process and justice. He should have been taken to the international war crimes tribunal ... but then the US refuses to recognise it don't they? (scared some of them may end up there!) Given that Bush, Blair and co. have killed far, far more people than Saddam ever did, when can we expect their trials I wonder? How about the people who shot down an Iranian passenger liner or bombed wedding parties and always shrugged their shoulders and said "whoops, accident"? There are many people just as resposible for deaths as Saddam. Some just wear nice suits and grin to camera more often but they are murdering scum all the same.
Why prolong the inevitable? Isn't justice delayed justice not served? Whatever...
I would just like to say the trial was indeed a pig circus to quote Simon who quoted Bob Dylan (in a song about a trial of a famous boxer who later on got aquited from a murder conviction which no doubt thanks to BD song got him some noteriety and a chance to go to trial again).
Trials that envolve public figures who are leaders of the government should be done with all seriousness, and they should be offered all oportunity to defend themselves properly which clearly wasn't done the judge showed too much biased to carry out his duties to see that justice was done, it would have been so much better if it was done before the world court in Germany like all important trials were done after world war 2, at least then he would have been tried before a less biased group and would have had dignified court proceedings which would have better for all concerned. And add to the fact that the US Government was backing the trial, it would have been much better if the trial was free of such involvement by the US and done in Germany.
Simon,
He should have been taken to the international war crimes tribunal ...but then the US refuses to recognise it don't they? (scared some of them may end up there!)
Yes I will try to find something with a google search, but on the radio station called Pacifica Radio http://www.pacifica.org/ They had on some political expert that was saying that the reason why they didn't have the trial at the world court was because the US has helped Saddam with weapons they supplied that did the killing of many innocent people, chemical weapons if i remember correctly (don't quote me on this) the station is where you can hear some very informative news when they tell the news it is much more informative than todays commercially owned and operated radio stations, it community sponsored unhinder by political pressure and have a lot people they interview that know alot about the middle east and give a very honest and many times unflatering, look at todays political issues not like all the commercially owned stations that have to be very cautious, about what they say for the most part.
Given that Bush, Blair and co. have killed far, far more people than Saddam ever did, when can we expect their trials I wonder?
Yes I would have to agree, that they have been worse than the terrorist they are claiming to fight against, I can say too much about Blair though because i haven't read that much about him, he seems to be getting heat over in England for his joining Bush in the invasion of Iraq which is good that the Brits see thru this thing, but the world is still pretty much in the dark as to what these guys are doing and how bad they are when it comes to needless loss of human life. Atleast Blair almost apologized for going along side the US in invading Iraq, sorta http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/11/18/iraq.blair/index.html almost but not quite, I wish Bush would repent of his course and appologize to the Iraqi people and the people of the USA for getting us in this war that will surely bring more terrorism to the US.
Here is something about the trial that shows why the US can be hppy it didn't take place in the world court in Germany, being that Saddam was only tried for 148 torture and execution of men and boys from the town of Dujail which was very small compared to the far more vicious acts he did with the help of the USA , of interest to note is that no foreigners were implicated in those killings he went on trial for, which is just what the leaders of the USA, wanted.
