    Dear Released-From-Care,

It's a chilly 45 degrees fahrenheit outdoors and I do not wish to risk pneumonia. I'm under the weather and brand-new sheets and feeling quite indulgent. It's vacation week and I go out only when I must [saving money that way]. I'm growing a beard and drinking non-alcoholized egg nog. Now that we do not have to punch a field service time clock and be guilted over every imaginable use of our time,

    How do you indulge?

I'm trying to think of how I indulge but we either don't, or we constantly do, it's a tough call... okay when we travel we normally stay at hostels so we have more money for fun stuff, but as an indulgence we'll stay at a nice hotel once in a while. But what we consider 'nice' is what most people consider 'budget', I wouldn't spend a massive amount of money on a hotel, that would be a ridiculous waste to me.

Maybe an indulgence is in the eyes of the beholder...

I think I have indulged myself to death over the last 20. This is the result of being wound up like a spring that explodes when you release it. It is also a mentality formed on the idea that I was condemed anyhow and the end is coming so who cares. Well I learned that there are some things that you truly must care about. It has been a world of extremes in my learning experience. Now I've swung back to going inside my shell. I hope as I age I'll understand what moderation is better. I will probably define fun differently as well.

Oh, to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday mornings. That is an indulgence we enjoy on a regular basis. No more service on holidays. Woohoo.

We buy the occansional lottery ticket. I swear some, it still makes me feel guilty but I am not letting the guilt stop me. And we watch rated R movies without the slightest pang of guilt.

    Dear Friends,

Thank you for your honest-hearted replies!

Bernadette - read on! watch on! Saw GHOST last night though we were instructed 16 years ago not to. Am I bad?

Tyrone - that on-going sense of doom is a killer. I, likewise, now know what matters.

Sassy - I used to stay at nice places but have given that up totally. It's better to pay my rent!

Lo-ru-hamah - sleeping in is all it's cracked up to be - and cussing? Golly gee whiz and shucks! Pardon my French.

    Thanx again,

I do the three R's: Read, Rite, and Reruns of the Simsons. Being hyperactive (even though I turned forty last year), I usually do all three at the same time....

Is it OK to say NO? I find it the supreme indulgence to say, "No, I can't do it!", and not feel the least need to explain. Feelings of guilt are gradually melting away.

    Can you say NO?

    CoCo
