Would The Internet Have Saved You?

This question would apply more to those who chose to become a jw than those who were raised from birth in it. If you would have had the internet with all its information on the jws when you first started studying, do you think you would have been warned away from them?

I use the internet now to google anything new that I am considering getting involved in. If I would have had it 30 years ago, I really don't believe I would have been sucked in to this cult. There is just too many warnings on the web about the jws and clear logical arguments to prove their doctrines wrong.

Hopefully, this will slowly eat away at any new converts. Most of their converts are young people, who grew up using the internet and are not going to be scared off by the society's paranoia.

I was born into it, but I think it still applies to me anyway. I did a nice 15 year fade, and still had all my family. If I had found the jwd 2 years ago, I would never have answered my door when I got the knock knock, and I would still be "just inactive" instead of dead!!!

I was raised in it, but I can answer without flinching: YES!

The Internet would have saved me if it had been available when I was young. I would probably have been able to avoid or postpone baptism long enough to get my head straight on whether The Truthâ„¢ was true.

I would likely grouse about my childhood, occasionally, but at least I wouldn't have misspent so much adulthood, to boot.

    Respectfully,

Well I was a "born in" also, and if the internet had been around in my childhood, I think my whole outlook on life would have been different. The internet started back in 1993 right? Well if I had found the internet back then Im sure my life would have taken a different turn. I think the biggest help would have to be meeting other XjW's, if I had known of an XJW support group back in my high school days, I think that would have freed me from the cult's grip. But it was only my mom and I back then, as Darin was still a devout JW.

Yes, it most certainly would have saved me! I would never have become a JW if I did research and found out about their past and the failed prophecies. It seems religions like this one can only do well in an atmosphere of secrecy and ignorance. They must hate the internet with a passion!

It was easy to pass as wise and scholarly when talking to people who did not know better (such as myself) and who had nothing to compare it to.

Yes, I am certain that I would have never have had a Bible study with JW's had the internet been around when I was a child. And I believe that I would have chosen a different career path, too.

I'm not a believer in that 'if' thing. That same 'if' will apply in 5,10,20 or 30 years time. Adjusting to the times makes life more bearable.

The internet is an awesome vehicle, it's like magic at your finger tips. Life is also magic. Only 'if' I were young again, yeah, yeah, yeah. A little humor never killed anyone.

It may have done. I would certainly have researched the jws, and it's quite probable I wouldn't have gone on with my study.

I left long before there was an Internet. However when I got my first computer it wasn't long before I stumbled into a lot of interesting information that confirmed I had made the right decision to leave.
