Anyway, I finally got hold of a lawyer who told me that I did not have to accept a "Compromise and Release" offer. In fact, "They might even offer you more money," he said, "and then you'll have to make up your mind."
So I wrote a polite email: "After long thought and a consultation with an attorney, I have decided to decline your offer of $10,000 in lieu of future medical."
Today the claims adjuster replied, "Thank you. But if you ever change your mind, just call me or [the HR lady].
So everything's jake, and I can go on to the next thing: getting my business in gear...
