Laying your Life Down for your Brother

Blaring from the speakers of the district assembly and from the podium
of the Kingdom Hall was the admonition of laying your life down for your
    brother in times of persecution.

    The Conflict of this Admonition

How many times I thought to myself in car groups did these individuals talk badly
about one another behind each other’s backs.

How many times during district conventions when someone suffered a heart attack or
died because of heat prostration did they make this announcement?
No, what was important was how clean and orderly the stadium was before and after the convention not human life.

What are your thoughts about laying your life down for your brother?

    Respectfully,

How many times had a JW said they would die for another JW, yet could not pick up the phone and call after they had missed a few meetings or when you were ill and stopped over with some light food, or invited them over for a game of cards knowing they lived alone.

This is soooo true. The WT seems obsessed with its 'clean' image it has when in the public eye like at Distict Conventions. This of course contributes to its shiny pristine exterior which it uses as (one of its many) tools for attracting a would be convert. Yes this is an Organisation that looks good on the outside but is indeed hollow on the inner.

    Rich:

I used to hate hearing this because I felt it was B.S. I don't want or expect anybody to lay down their life for me and I certainly am not going to willingly lay down my life for them. The only person I would give my life for would be my child.

They are just setting people up to be victims. I have a suspicion there are those there who would like YOU to lay down your life for THEM - as though they have more of a right to be alive than you do.

They remind me of generals who send young guys to the front line to take the bullets while they are safe behind lines.

In the congregations I was in, no one even got along all that well, or associated with each other. Give up their lives for someone else? I doubt it very much. But I do know a few Jdubs that wanted others dead. Liilly

I wish that I was more willing to lay my life down for other people. It's a good quality to have, that willingness. I don't mean to let someone walk all over you, but to be generous and selfless and compassionate and to, like you said, lay down my life for my brother. I pray that I'd be more like that someday!
