Hi,
In trying to show a relative the error of the WTS's ways, I need to know exactly what the WTS's rebuttal is on the 607 BC vs 586 BC. What could they POSSIBLY say? The history books & encyclopedias show the Fall of ancient Jerusalem in the year 586/587 BC .....NOT 607 BC as the WTS claims. How can they explain THAT away????
I would really appreciate any help.

The wts don't really have a rebuttal that anyone, certainly no one with any knowledge of ancient history, would find acceptable. I guess they rely on their followers simply accepting the watchtowers teaching on 607/587, rather than doing the kind of independent research that many on this board and elsewhere have done. Getting them to accept the evidence of history will most likely be difficult, knowing the importance of 607 in their chronology. If they accept the falseness of watchtower teaching on that date, they are virtually accepting that for their whole time as jws they have been part of a belief system built on falsehood. I feel that many who have spent their entire life as jws would have a hard time doing that, but good luck with what you are trying to do.

the society is not actively defending their 607 (I read a post on this board of someone that is waiting for a reply to his letter from two years ago...), they just refer to the article chronology in the insight book. the main defender of 607 is rolf furuli. type his name in google and you'll get his arguments. he will be publishing a new book soon (available from eisenbrauns). watch out for carl's reply to it (you can find the essay review on furuli's first book here: http://user.tninet.se/~oof408u/fkf/english/furulirev.htm)
Get Carl Olof Jonsson Gentile times reconsidered (4th edition). you'll find all that you need in there. BTW I am collecting plenty of material on chronology, so if you'll need some help just send a pm.

Maybe 1914 has lost it's importance to the JW's since the generation thing has changed. Since Christ waited 2000 years to return, maybe he will wait another 2000 years before he does anything.
