Hey my husband and I are big football fans! So This week-end is a ciurcut assembly meeting. I have never been to one before and my husband has not been in a long time. So I am thinking this is a test or something. I heard one on the elders saying that they are taking note on who is attending. We have been invited to a superbowl party with some non JW friends. I thinking I will go on Saturday and then decide what I will do on Sunday.

But I am also thinking I could get my husband to leave early if I go with him on Sunday. The Assembly is over 2 hours away, so it is a big commitment to go! Is this too munipulating!

    Can anyone relate?

I truly don't feel it has been "manipulated" to fall on that particular occassion.

But for the elders to write down names of those who are not there is wrong. So what are they going to do with that information? Lay a "guilt" trip on people? Ask them to meet w/them to find out where they were? Be interesting to know.

Most people here will say that if it is your first circuit assembly,
blow it off and enjoy the Superbowl. I am like most people.

I would also suggest you personally never commit to an entire
day or two of the Chicken Little Cult. You really have to know
that the religion is a farce so that you don't start believing what
    you hear.

Isnt the game after the circuit assembly ends? 6 pm EST, 5 pm EST (not sure of PST). Why would you have to miss the assembly which usually ends around 4:30 p.m.? Do you live a distance from the assembly hall? Suggestion, get a hotel room near the assembly hall and drive over there right after the closing prayer. Have drinks and munchies and a good TV and bring some comfortable folding chairs. Invite some escapees from the assembly.

Second idea, go to an assembly on a different week and beg off with some minor contagious disease (flu?).

If the game were during the assembly, I have seen many an elder rush to his van during the breaks (or even during the session) to check on the score.

I think they do it on purpose too. Here they had one that landed on Christmas Eve this year and another year it was over the Christmas holiday too. My (all non jw) relatives think it is mean spirited that they do that when considering jw's who are married to non jw's. Just another nail for their coffin.

Just say. Ummm...yeah, I was`there, I was in the back. You didn't see me? Or, if you are not comfortable with that, just leave after the public talk, The rest of the Sunday Session is usually just drivel.

That should give you an itty bitty clue about what kind of group you are involved with.

Watch the Football Game and enjoy yourself.

BTW, we (our church) is having the Lord's Supper on Super Bowl Sunday.... 5 P.M. EST Done by 5:45 P.M. with plenty of time left to see the first quarter.

You should have time to still see the game which doesnt start til 6...and Im thinking that that isnt the GAME time but may be COVERAGE time with all the hoopla and advertising and commentary and crap first. So...go and be "counted" and make all those ne'er-do-wells looking to BUST you look bad LOL!
