I am new to Washington. I have lived here now for a year and a half. A hobby that I have picked up while being here is hiking hills and mountains.
It is very relaxing. You get to see some great views! It is good exercise and it puts you in a great frame of mind!
A friend called up and wants to hike up Mt. St. Helens!!! I was apprehensive at first, but now I am really looking forward to going!!!
It will be a 4 1/2 hour hike up and then 4 1/2 hours down; a NINE hour hike! We will get to go to the top of the mountain I have heard and will get to look right into the crater as we will be walking right along side it!
You walk up into and then out of the cloud layer as you get to the top. It should be very fun! I am very excited about it!
I just hope that my feet don't get too sore! Last hike I took was 5 hours and my feet were very sore!
Here is the website of the climb and some pictures! http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/mount-st-helens/index.shtml
Here is the volcano cam: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/volcanocams/msh/ (not too good at night)
