The Light Gets Brighter

i was thinking about this today after reading some post regarding how the organization has been incorrect with the date of the end of the system and really anything else. i always remember the "answer" being: jehovah causes the light (a better understanding of his plan) to get brighter. i always wondered why it was so unclear the first time around. what do you think the reason for this scripture is? and i don't even know the context or where this scripture is. :(

It comes from Prov 4:18,

(NIV)The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, ? shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

(NWT) "But the path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established."

It has nothing to do with doctrine at all. It's a bunch of proverbs about the path of wisdom.

They base it on Proverbs 4: 18 (ASV)

"But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light, That shineth more and more unto the perfect day."

It's a total misapplication as the verse doesn't talk about refining the doctrines of an organisation but the essence of a righteous life style, juxtaposed with the life style of the unrighteous in the following verse:

4: 19 "The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble."

What's more most of these new light changes do not involve gradual progressive improvement of an understanding but rather the total rejection of old knowledge and its replacement by new often totally contradicting knowledge. They don't add something, they drastically replace.

The text is Prov. 4:18. The context(great question by the way) is a contrast being made between the righteous and the wicked. It is, like most of the Book of Proverbs, a lesson in morality and the accompanying benefits contrasted with dishonest, unethical behavior and the resulting penalties and sufferings. From a purely contextual standpoint, it has nothing to do with progressive revelation and/or understanding of Bible prophecy.

First, look at Proverbs 4:18 and the context. What was the writer talking about?

Also, ask yourself about the flip-flop doctrines of the WTS.

1) Superior authorities: 1879-1929 (secular authorities) 1929-1962 (God and Jesus) 1962-present (secular authorities)

2) Organ transplants: until 1967 (conscience matter); 1967-1980 (dfing offense--like cannabilism) 1980 (conscience matter)

3) Sodom and Gomorrah to be resurrected (flip-flopped several times)

4) Scream/rape required or not required

Doctrines that switch back and forth like this are not a matter of the light getting brighter but a matter of the light being bright, getting darker, then getting bright, then getting darker, then getting bright.

what do you think the reason for this scripture is?

I think it's an emergency stop gap measure, to get their tit out of the ringer, drop back and punt.

Raise the flag back up the pole and see who salutes.

My comment on the nwt. The light getting lighter and lighter is not the same as brighter and brighter. Lighter and lighter to me means it is going to get so light it will fade away. It wont be able to be seen.

Either way with the watertower society too much lightness or too much brightness does not equate to something that is easy to understand . It makes you think of wincing away in pain due to the shock to the senses.
