Hey! Anyone watch Cris Angel? I saw him walk across water and that got me to thinking......Jesus turned wine into water and managed to walk across water - Cris Angel has turned women into tigers and also walked across water. One is considered as having performed a miracle and is named a God yet the other is considered to be a magician and called an illusionist. So - if Cris Angel were performing his act in the times of Christ, would he have been considered a miracle worker as well? If Jesus were performing his miracles now, would he be considered an illusionist? sammieswife.

Good question. I guess it depends on how well educated the audience is. I mean, do you think most of the people who visit or discover images of the virgin mary under overpasses, and in toasts, or in a fruitcake, for that matter are well educated?
And if education isn't the issue, then perhaps gullability is.
High priests performed the walking on water and turning water into wine stunts long before Jesus came along.
There was a long history and tradition of such miracles in the middle east long before jesus; there were also legends of virgin births and sacrificial messiahs.
Jesus wasn't the first, but maybe one of the last; perhaps he was just the first to be written about extensively and by mistake someone thought he was supposed to be worshipped and become a representative of love and peace.
That's not to suggest that there's anything wrong with love and peace; just too bad that in the case of jesus it had to include a horrible death and enormous suffering.
Wouldn't it have been a more impressive miracle if suffering really ended when he came around the first time?
What kind of loving god would have allowed his son and all of mankind to endure and perpetuate that kind of suffering and torture all these millennia?

now i see the solution to the riddle! i must make a choice between wine or women. hmmmm...
