I've been reading many slanderous things about the JW's - can anyone give me a reason why a)it would be called a profit making organisation - exactly who is profiting? And b)if it is so wrong, brainwashing the millions, then who is at the top, benefiting from deceiving all these millions of people? Can anyone out there can help me answer these questions?

    alibongo58-------------- Welcome!!

And in answer to your question, I recommend reading a book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad." Has nothing to do with religions, much less Jehovah's Witnesses in particular...but has everything to do with financial incentives and tax loopholes for corporations--and how two distinctly different money-making philosophies/ paradigms exist and are passed down through generations throughout the world.

One philosophy/ paradigm explains the operation of the Watchtower Corporation in a very general sense. Having learned this--the rest you can surmise from common sense. Happy reading!!

You might want to read this article about the Watchtower Society's quiet investment in warfare tech companies.

The profit of the organization comes from various sources. The sale of literature, the generous contributions of members, the sale of real estate, the returns from investments, etc. I don't think any individual or group of men within the organization have become wealthy as a result of this. But for the organization itself it is very "profitable." The advantages that the Watchtower leaders have are from are the perks they receive from the organization. They live comfortably in the midst of New York City. They travel extensively to all parts of the world. They have the best accomodations. They receive generous "gifts" from the members. And they are treated as special people among Jehovah's Witnesses.

The most disturbing factor is that the Watchtower Society here in the U.S. has refused "financial disclosure." So, we just don't know how wealthy the organization is and wonder why it has been so reluctant to come forth with this information. But it has been listed among other wealthy corporations in New York city.

Some people also suspect that the WTS is a front for another organisation that hides behind it and uses it to make profits and then takes them. This is a suspicion not a proven fact. In addition many find it strange that the WTS is repelled by the idea of doing some charity work despite its claims to be uniquely the truth.

A claimed charity corporation with a closed financial policy is a huge red flag that they have something financial to hide. Ethics in finances = disclosure.

Thanks for the response guys - very informative. I didn't realise that they have a non-disclosure policy. I just think about my Mum feeling it her godly duty to put money in to the contribution box each week even though she realistically couldnt afford to. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, they're raking it in! Interesting.

Yeah, they are making money out of their members selling their publications, books and magazines, without any reward any wages (that's an enormous free work force) plus they accumulated a lot of wealth by donations of property and large sums of money by their members over the years. They are a multi billion corporation that are into real estate and other investments eg on the stock market. And surprisingly for a charity their charitable spirit is basically non existent. Meanwhile the dubs pay for all their local expenses for their KHs and assemblies/conventions yet the WTS owns all KHs.
