    Hi

Local elder's daughter was disfellowhipped recently and failed to get reinstated. Now she's left home as she couldn't put up with the shunning from family and friends.

I want to send a letter to the elder father with some WT quotes for him to ponder on . My favourite is w52 11/15 pp703-4 which basically says 'We'd kill 'em if we could get away with it'. However I'd like to contrast it with the w74 8/1 pp471-2 which seems to imply the elders can't poke their noses in to family situations.

Can anybody give some other quotes from WT or Bible to contrast with their hardline approach?

    Thanks

    Thomas Covenant

    I feel for her.

This is exactly what happened to me!

Disfellowshipped when she probably should have been counseled.

The excommunication is used by the Watchtower Society for every sin when it should be used for those members who are causing divisions and sects and disturbing the peace of the congregation.

How do other churches handle the sins of their members? I dont see them kicking out their members and forbidding family members from talking with them.

They demonize their members who fall into sin when in fact the Bible encourages us to view sinners as sick and needing a physician, a spiritual physician.

They cut off the sinner and cast them out. They throw them into the sea. Sink or swim!

The sheep walked off by itself! Let it find its own way home!!!!

There is a lot of detail about the disfellowshipping arrangement at http://jwfacts.com/index_files/disfellowship.htm including what the WTS says compared with what the Bible says.

In regards to the 1974 article, in Crisis of Conscience Franz explains that he wrote that article recommending a softer approach. After he was dismissed from the GB the 1980s reverted back to a more hard line approach to the treatment of the Disfellowshipped.
