Saw a thing on the news about a place that sells baby chicks that have been dyed various bright colors (colours for you Brits). You know these little creatures will no doubt die of neglect in a short time. I don't think this is a good thing to teach children.

    I agree Gregor.

They are living beings and not toys. Shows how much disregard there is towards animals. And actually bunnies are cute, but not appropriate animals for young children to have. Their bite is hard and their hind legs are powerful and scratch when they push away.

Some parents/people have their heads up their asses when it comes to giving animals like these to support some holiday. They should stick to the plush fake animals.

    My 2 cents worth.

I agree, god only knows what the dye itself is doing to those poor little cuddly wuddlies. I say if ya wanna get your lil one a colorful chic or rabbit, buy them the stuffed variety.

There was a bit on our news here about bringing home baby chicks for your kids. Seems like many of them carry Salmonella and you are exposing your kids to that illness at a time when it can have a devastating affect on their little bodies.

Fact- the chicks can be healthy, but they walk over their own waste products. Handling them means
to wash before touching the chick (safer for the chick) and wash immediately after (before those hands touch
the face and other things). That is not something easily done in a fun-toy environment. Leave the chicks for
    science at school.

Bird Flu- hatching chicks are safe from transmitting bird flu. Avian flu is not transmitted to the eggs. Already hatched
chicks must be exposed to an adult bird with the flu in order to get it. Therefore- only hatching them yourself guarantees
the safety of the chicks. That means hatching science at school is safe, but don't bring any chicks home from somewhere.

The dye on baby chicks won't do any harm. They molt and get new feathers after a few weeks.

I agree that we must highly value an animal's life and treat it with respect.

That said I also think it those Easter toys are DANGEROUS!!!!!

The other day I gave my chihuahua a stuffed easter chick toy to play with.

I no sooner turned my back on the fun when she looked at me and grinned exposing a huge googly-eye stuck between her teeth!!!!

I screamed!!!! My husband had to perform the surgery to remove the plastic eye from between her teeth!

Lesson learned: PULL OFF ALL EYES OF TOYS BEFORE GIVING THEM TO YOUR DOGS!

(Last year she pooped out a little santa hat!)

    Yikes!
