Ok, I put this under Jokes and humor because my credit seems to be a joke at the moment.

ok, so I've been working at repairing it. Anybody have any suggestions about how to do this on my own.

I've been doing ok so far but I ran into some difficulty with a couple comapanies that I paid in full.

They say they cannot ask the credit bureau to erase my info from my report. Is this true, or do they just do not want to bother with me since I paid them back all their money?

I know that you can make a deal w/ them prior to paying because I was able to do that with one other company.

    Anybody have any suggestions?

I'm obsessive about my credit rating now as well, because I'm looking at buying a house in a couple years. The best thing to do is to pay your bills on time, every time. Pay off your credit card balances in full every month, or at least try to pay more than the minimum. It's gonna take some time, but eventually your score will creep up.

I'm afraid you might be in a jam with the company that you paid off. It would have been better to negotiate something before you paid them off, because now they have no more motivation to help you out. It is my understanding that they CAN request the credit bureau to erase something, but they probably won't now since you've paid.

If you haven't already, pull a copy of your credit report, and first make sure that there are no errors on it. Then you can get in touch with the credit bureau yourself and if the bill you paid off is still showing as "unpaid", you can file a dispute, and the credit bureau will look into it. (Just a tip: I would file a dispute on any bad stuff that is really old. I did this, not knowing whether I had a valid dispute or not, but I got some old stuff taken off of my credit report, which really boosted my score!) You can get one free report each year from www.annualcreditreport.com

There's also a lot of great info on www.myfico.com I subscribe to their Scorewatch, and it lets you keep up with your credit score, gives you alerts on when it changes, etc. This way you'll know how whatever you are doing is affecting your score.

    Hope this helps!

In writing about your dispute the creditor has so many days to dispute your dispute, if they don't respond I "believe" it gets dropped.

However as a realtor, the first things that I would do is what we call in our business, writing "cry baby letters" ask them to remove certain marks against your credit because of reasons, CRY BABY REASONS

Tell them you changed jobs, you were laid off, you got injuired, you were going through bad times, ect...

See if they remove them, if not then go to the dispute with them.

I would send dispute after dispute until the creditor doesn't respond and hopefully it will be removed.

Also ask a mortgage officer to give you suggestions on how to best fix your credit, we deal with this and many times in 6-12 months the person is back with sufficient credit to purchase a home.

My suggestion don't fix it learn to live on what you have and save versus borrow. The system is rigged against saving but there are ways around the system for now till they try another money sceme which usauly involes forcing people back this to this phony money sceme we have.

    forget about your credit.

save up for what you want and pay cash.
