I just finished reading Crisis of Conscience. Wow. I was wondering if the procedure for disfellowshipping on the grounds of apostasy is still the same. It was defined in the book as someone who believes a different interpretation of the scriptures than the one published by the Society. And one does not have to talk about his opinions to others, but just having them can get him dfed. Is this still true? Does anyone know for sure?

Ray Franz seemed heartfelt in the writing of his story. Has anyone heard anything from the other side to indicate that his story may not be like he wrote it? Have there been any statements to dispute it from any who were there at Bethel when it all went down?

    I appreciate your comments. Snoopy

Absolutely true. Venice and her Mom were df'd a year ago, for just that. Her Dad was df'd first, buthe did share what he learned with them, so they got called in too, a few months later. Same result. You can't believe something different.

    Snoopy,

Read this thread from this discussion board from May 2001: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=5721&site=3#67019

The Society through its Watchtower and Kingdom Ministry articles have continued to warn against "independent thinking"...Notice, not spreading your independent thoughts, but even HAVING independent thoughts!!! Something to think about??? It's up to you!!

At my JC for apostasy, the first JC decided to DF me. At the appeal JC, they correctly realized that a JC wasn't needed and I was "automatically" DA'd. By doing something like going to another church, there is no need to DF or have a JC, you are automatically DA'd.

Yes, Brother Franz "story" is very factual. Besides the copies of memos that he provides to back up his claims, I have known some of the Brothers he mentions like Brother Trask. His second book, In Search of Christian Freedom, really hits home in the doctrines area. It was his second book that made me rethink my situation as an Elder.

Will you get DA just for attending another church or do you have to join? Just because you attend another church does not mean that you believe or agree with it.

I was curious what specific doctrine did he and his family disagree with the Society on? Thanks, Snoopy

    Snoopy,

Check back in your copy of Crisis of Conscience. You'll see that one of the first points that caused Ray Franz to question the WT Society was chronology. He studied this topic extensively in preparation for his authorship of the subject in the "Aid to Bible Understanding" published by the WT Society in 1971 (or thereabouts). The WT teaching is that Jerusalem was first destroyed in 607 BCE, and they hold to this date because it sets up their "seven Gentile times which end exactly in 1914" viewpoint. However, all secular historians point to 586 BCE as the reliable date for the first destruction of Jerusalem.
