well today i realised it is all coming to an end. ever since i was about 6 i have been attending meetings but for the past ?teen years have never been fully convinced of what i was being taught. Of course there are the talks which give you hope that you are doing the right thing but it only takes a few weeks for the feeling to wear off. I made it to pub but never baptism to the dismay of everyone in the local congregation, some are very encouraging and some wish i would just make up my mind already. For the past 3 years i have been contemplating whether the time is right to live a different course but have delayed mostly for not wanting to let people down, people who have genuinely invested time in me including my mum. But for the past year and a bit any little conviction i had began to fade. I literally cringe during some of the talks and during some of the comments, at conventions and assemblies when the speaker raises his voice in anticipation of the audiences applause. It seems like one of the main draws for young people (18 - 35) is the social aspect, friends, going for coffee after the service, lunch after the meetings, parties and get togethers, going for drinks after a convention/assembly and meeting potential girlfriends/boyfriends. Nothing at all wrong with any of this, i enjoyed aspects of it but then i was no longer prepared to blindly enjoy all of this and ignore the bigger picture. i cant confidently knock on someones door and tell them this is the truth and what is written in this magazine is right. Some of the recent magazines have got me really angry and confused. the resurrection article (01/01/07), the qfr (1/5/2007) and particularly 'loyal to christ and his faithful slave' (1/4/07). I intend to stay long enough just to hear the comments giving during this watchtower study. I was about 85% sure of my decision before reading this study, afterward it was a much higher percentage especially after this para. 'The other sheep recognize that they have greatly benefitied from the dilligent efforts of the faithful slave in supplying them with timely spiritual food. They humbly acknowledge that were it not for the faithful and discreet slave they would know little or nothingof precious bible truths......Out of sheer gratitude and loyalty, the other sheep lovingly support christs anointed brothers on earth...' wt 01/04/07 pg.25 para.16 Need i say more

Welcome to the forum standstillsoldier, as you mentioned there is no point in bringing into this org anyone to suffer oppression and manipulation, the JW kids themselves are leaving in droves having seen what it means to be a ruled by this devious org.
'The other sheep recognize that they have greatly benefitied from the dilligent efforts of the faithful slave in supplying them with timely spiritual food. They humbly acknowledge that were it not for the faithful and discreet slave they would know little or nothingof precious bible truths......Out of sheer gratitude and loyalty, the other sheep lovingly support christs anointed brothers on earth...'
That is sheer propaganda, they can talk about giving spiritual truth and food and about being anointed, they can't get their doctrines right and are for ever changing them, blood restrictions, 1914, 1335 etc

Welcome Standstillsoldier! Boy have you come to right place! Sit a spell! Take your shoes off!
(As Jed Clampett used to say) We're all your friends here. Your happiness on JWD is our desire!
Alot of us have out for some time so we did not see those Watchtowers you are referring to.
Those are some awfully contrived non-biblical statements! Really obvious control attempts!
(shudder)
Well, as DJK suggested, take time to peruse the many discussions that have taken place on JWD and understand better what the Watchtower Cult is all about and what it has done to so many lives. -

Welcome to the board!
The final quote you pointed out I feel is a perfect picture of what is wrong with the Jehovahs Witnesses.
Ever Jehovah's Witnesses (as well as ex-jw) knows that the Society does not come out and say that the magazines are inspired. They tell us that they are infallible and are not perfect, and don't allways get it right.
The problem with this is that even though they tell us they are not inspired by God, they demand that we follow them as if they where. It is in this manner they are able to have their cake and eat it too.
Good for you in being able to find your way past all that. You will be amazed at what you learn.
