How qualified are members of the Hospital Liason Committees to give advice to JWs who need a blood transfusion and want to avoid having one?

I always thought it was wrong for an unqualified person to give medical advice on something so important.

I also don't think that a window cleaner, bank clerk, solicitor, used car salesman etc, even if they have been on WTBTS sponsored courses are qualified to give any medical advice AT ALL under any circumstances and even psychological counselling should be way out of their reach.

Quackery has always been a problem with the WTBTS right from its inception and it still appears to continue.

So, do you think it is 'correct procedure' for the Slaves of the Watchtower, the Elders, to advise people on medical or psychological problems and since this is what they do, should they be BANNED from attending hospitals where JWs are in need of medical care to avoid their interfering with treatment and using coercion on patients?

I really hope some of the medical professionals on the board give their opinions, too. This topic REALLY gets my blood boiling.

I have had the priviledge *gag* of dealing with the HLC, even having them escorted from the hospital.

Imagine having heart problems, or cancer, and making an appointment at "Brother's Janitorial Service" to be treated. Unless they have a medical degree behind their name, they have no clue as to how the human body works. Or how to heal the body, and soul.

The nurses here on the board, myself included, can only say what they know, what they have seen, and their "PERSONAL OPINIONS". Usually we kinda know what we are talking about. Sometimes, we can direct people to web sites that might offer more knowledge. Some nurses have more experience in different fields. BUT WE ALWAYS SAY TO SEE YOUR PHYSICIAN!!!

No one, except a licensed doctor can legally offer medical advice........otherwise, it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I'm just surprised they haven't been sued!!

Hi Crazyblondeb - I am surprised that the WT has not disbanded the HLC! They are a clear representative of the WT organization and dish out advice to ailing JWs left right and centre.... and there must have been fatalities associated with their advice.

I wonder when the first JW or JW relative will begin a law suit against the Watchtower for this 'service' that THEY provide for the publishers.

They are a lawsuit just waiting to happen!

If, as has been suggested by others, the real heartbeat of the WT Society is to be a money-making organization, then one would think that hitting them where it hurts (in their pocket books) would lead to some prompt action. However, those who are blind and in bondage tend to be afraid of Big Brother.

I wonder if there have been any lawsuits over the blood issue? Any way to find this out? Where would the responsibility land--the elders, the HLC or further up the line in Brooklyn?

SHUNNED_FATHER (Lawrence) posts here and there is much info on his suit against the society.
