A snail gets thrown down a fifty foot dry well. Everday he oozes up three feet, but slides down two feet every night when he's asleep. How long does it take him to get out?

I've actually heard two right answers to this one.

The easy answer is that he makes progress of one foot every day. However, on the 48th day he reaches the top of the well. But does that answer the question??? Reaching the top does not get him over the edge.

My answer is the 49th day. Because that is the day he get's over the edge.... Unless, of course, he is doing the pioneer shuffle.

    Here ya' go:

    He never does get out!

He dies while oozing up the wall of the dry well... becomes dessicated for lack of moisture. Leaves shrinking moulding snail flesh intact in a snail shell, stuck to the side of the well wherever on the way up, until it simply all falls away and rots at the bottom of said well.

    No math necessary.

And mouse and betterdaze have the other right answer.

If you have not read "The Rule of Four" which is where I got this I highly recommend it. It is WAY better than the Da Vinici Code.
