Okay, so I'm going to be seeing my parents before long. They are both solid JW's. I have been a baptist for over 5 years now, and during that time I've found lots of verses in the NWT that are translated incorrectly. Unfortunately, I've never made a list of these errors. I know this is going to be a big deal to them, if I refuse to use the NWT (which I will). Can you tell me any verses that you know of offhand that are translated incorrectly?

I'm going to compile a list so when they give me grief about not using their bible, I'll be able to show them why.

    Thanks, all.

Lists will do you no good. They are "convinced" that theirs is a better Bible.
It seems that the only reasonable compromise is to use more than one Bible.

If you want to spend the whole time in silence, present a list the first time.
Otherwise, say "Let's look at the KJV and the Amer. Standard. Let's look at
your Greek Diaglott, AND we'll look at the NWT."

Either that or just say, "I will read it in mine, you read it in yours."

Well, I still have my old NWT, and I have lots of study references on the meanings of hebrew and greek words. I also have some info on the ones who translated the NWT, but I don't want to break that out on them until later if possible since it will be considered "apostate". Thanks for the links, fullofdoubtnow.

Here are some key verses incorrectly translated:

    * Colossians 1:15-18 (adding the word "other" where it is not in the Greek).
    * Acts 20:28 (adding the word "Son" that is not in the Greek)
    * John 1:1 ("a god")
    * Any verse that has "Jehovah" in the New Testament, especially where the writers were not quoting the Old Testament.

Try to use the Kingdom Interlinear Translation (also from the Watchtower Society). Look up the verses above in the Kingdom Interlinear. Also, look up the following verses in the Kingdom Interlinear:

    * Colossians 2:9 (look at the Footnote in the New World Translation Reference Bible! Jesus has all of the fullness of GODSHIP!)

    * John 14:14 (in the Kingdom Interlinear, Jesus tells His disciples to pray TO HIM)

    * Look up any verses where "Jehovah" is in the New Testament, and see what those verses say in the Kingdom Interlinear Translation.

    * Look up the Footnote on Hebrews 1:6 and the Footnote on Acts 7:59 in the New World Translation Reference Bible.

What you really need is a copy of the New World Translation Interlinear. That really exposes their bias.

Yeah, too bad I don't have that one anymore. I do have one of their "KJV", and even that's messed up.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
