... would you wake up each morning wondering, "Is today the day I die in a suicide bombing, or will it be tomorrow?" I ask, as it seems a suicide bombing is becoming as common as breathing over there and I am convinced, it will not end until they all die and the last man standing will blow himself up, as that is just the thing you do. Although, if we pull out, it will happen faster.

Yes, but they are dieing for Allah and that's a good thing, with a great reward. That's better than living in that God forsaken desert with no sex and you cant even look at a pretty woman. The pent up testosterone probbalby makes them blow up when they get in a car.

This idea that "they" are fundamentally different than "us" seems flawed to the core -- ie: "we" want to live and thrive and have freedom of belief and religion and happiness and a safe place to love and raise our children... but "they" only want to kill others and finally themselves.

Totally agree. Please see [Sunni and Shiite] Scholars for Iraq Muslim Peacekeepers . Interesting article calling for reconciliation.

And I wonder: if America were to experience a sudden and violent "regime change" from outside and most of our infrastructure was blown to smithereens and we were occupied, how much different would it be here? You don't think gangs and mobsters and militias and various individuals would be raising hell? You think we'd all be quickly and smoothly rebuilding everything and everyone would be all peaceful and cooperative with each other?

The suicide bombers are dying for Allah but the other Iraqis and other people is not. That is like saying the people that Timothy McVeigh blew up shared his political position.

The people is Virginia Tech know what is like to have one angry person kill 32 people who did not share his philosophy.

People are dying all over the world. Someone just tried to bomb an abortion clinic.

I work in a government building that has bomb threats once a month.

Who needs to live in Iraq...people are killing innocent people every day.

I think that the violent excesses during the Los Angeles riots prove that just beneath the surface of US society lies a sozzled Miss Liberty wearing a pair of scrubbers moth-eaten and stained tights.

It has to be said however that the blood-letting and infighting between the Arab tribes is not a new phenomena, but one reflected by a long and rather ugly history.

T.E.Lawrence in his 1920's dispatches to the U.K. warned against the West making a frontal attack on the Arab people as such an act would, under Muslim law, demand that factions at war with each other for centuries weld into one formidable force against the West. Keep them fighting one another was his advice. Even non-Arabs, like the Iranians who share a similar religious history and were once enemies of Iraq are proving Lawrence to be correct in his assessment.

Of course, the Bush administration were hell bent on a Democratic experiment that demanded that common sense be outlawed as unpatriotic.

People here, do not accept a religion that would kill for the sake of their god, in a way like the Muslims. So they are "they" until we become as sick in the brain as "they" are. I think, you have to watch Schendlers List though, to understand my question. In that movie the people became so accepting of their fate, because they could do nothing to stop it. That they accepted and expected their death without doing anything, because "they" had no other choice. Which is the same with people in Iraq. The crap is deep, but there is no way of jumping out of it, as it is all around.
