100 identified as terror group members
Up to 100 people living in Sydney have reportedly been identified as members of terrorist groups linked to Osama bin Laden.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Australian Secret Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) and other agencies found suspects have been raising funds for the conflict by contributing to sham charities directly linked to terrorism, according to the Daily Telegraph.
A confidential commonwealth report lists the individuals as having various degrees of affiliation with splinter factions of bin Laden's al-Qaeda group, the Egyptian Al-Jihad al-islami and the Algerian Groupe Islamic Armee.
Some extremist members of the Sydney-based Islamic Youth Movement are listed as being of national security interest while more than a dozen men of Egyptian, Jordanian and Tunisian origin living in Australia and applying for refugee status have been linked with radical groups.
Also under watch are residents who have travelled overseas for military training and bank accounts that are believed to be used for the distribution of funds to terrorist fronts.
