Need some Gardening Tips

I just finished hoein' the garden bed, loose soil and all.

I have bought 4 bags of lily bulbs, each bag has 6 bulbs each.

I have sought info in regards to gardening from various people, but the main question I have not been able to get answered is whether or not any kind of weed killer (chemical or otherwise) can harm lilies if I sprayed on them by accident?

I plan to mulch the bed as soon as they grow high enough whereas I won't worry about choking them out. I'm told mulching in about 4 inches high should help suppress the weeds from growing out of the bed.

The garden bed hasn't been messed with for 8 years since her dead beat ex-husband never did anything with it . So I am trying to revive it and get the yard, garden bed and everything all looking beautiful.

Any gardening tips and suggestions would be most helpful.

Whenever someone asked me for a tip I told them to lean to one side. I'm no green thumb.

I would avoid weed killer and use natural means such as mulch. Also make sure and put some bone meal into the planting hole. All bulbs love it. (what kind of lillies are you putting in?)

Depends on the type of weed killer if they were accidently sprayed.

    Good luck.

Herbicide will kill your lillies. Even if you use a piece of cardboard to protect them while you spray weeds around them, the herbicide gets into the roots of the weed, and could touch one of the roots of your lilly plants, and kill them, too. The best bet is just to hoe the weeds carefully while the plants are still young, and then when about 12" tall, carefully put mulch throughout the bed. It's pretty easy when you have mulch. You still have to weed, but they pull right out easily, and there's not as many of them.

Restrangled asked: what kind of lilies are you putting in?

They're called Oriental Hybrid Lilies. I plan to wait and get some things from a Garden Nursery such as the bone meal as suggested.

What about Miracle Gro? How soon do I start using it?

    Thanks

Check out googles under lilly bulbs. There should be pages of info.
