Religion And The Churches — Both Sides of The Argument.

What are the pros and cons about religion and the churches? Historically, The Watch-
tower Society paints a dark often-negative perspective of religion and the churches.

True, they are responsible for wars, corruption and politicking, some individuals may
question why not just do away with religion altogether.

However, there are two sides to this “coin” and for some people a belief in God, religion
    and church is important.

    Religion In Society

For some communities, such as the African-American community, church provides a place
for spirituality, socialization and family stability. Churches do have programs for those who
are needy, hungry and some provide education through their institutions.

For some the Bible and religion provide emotional, mental, and psychological stability.

Question: Considering both sides of the argument, what is your perspective of religion?

    Respectfully,

i think it is helpful for most people to have some belief system. i think it is important also not to try to impose one's beliefs on others. persuasion and conversation, dialogue is fine and helps the thought process.

everything, it seems to me, in the end boils down to personal conscience.

There seems to be good and bad in everything in the universe. Religion is no different. I guess it depends on the religion and whether it's based on love or some other human emotion and whether it makes you happy or not. The ancient history of religion doesn't seem to give it much to brag about, and not many today either. The human mind can be lead in so many directions it's kind of scary. There doesn't seem to be enough evidence to prove any God or religion to be the real truth of the universe, so we must just find our own way through life and hope for happiness and if we can't accept death find hope in some religion or God.

There are only two sides, black and white?

Oh dear, and there I was thinking that the subject was far more complex

Religion has played one of the biggest parts in culture and society.
This is true. But I would say that indentured servitude and horses
played a big part in past culture. They had their day, now it's over.

I believe that at about the time this quote was made, it was time to
    turn away from organized religion.

"Religion is Opium for the masses."
    Karl Marx

Since then, I think that individual spirituality (whatever each person
decides that it means for them) should have taken a more prominent
    position.

Maybe religion is not so much responsible for war, but more the justifiction some use for going to war. Maybe in the abscense of organized religion a new justification for war, corruption and politicking would be found.
