I used to help my mom take care of a very old lady right before I moved out of the home. This lady had been married to a well known artist in the New Mexico Area. She had books and books of poems and scraps of papers and things she had written. She gave some to me. Over the years I have lost some, but tonight I came across one scrap.

I thought I would share. It is off an old Newspaper clipping and I cannot tell who wrote it, but it is not my writing.

    Essay on man

    Man is what woman marries.

Men have two feet, two hands, and sometimes two wives, but never more than one collar button or one idea at a time.Like Turkish cigarettes, men are all made of the same material, the only difference is that some are better disguised than others. Generally speakin, they may be divided into three classes---husbands, bachelors, and widowers. An eligible bachelor is a man of obstinancy surrounded with suspicion. Husbands are of three varieties--prize, suprise, and consolation prise. Making a husband out of a man is one of the highest plastic arts known to civilization. It requires science, sculpture, and common sense, faith, hope, and charity--mostly charity. It is a psychological marvel that a soft, fluffy, tender, violet-scented, sweet thing like woman should enjoy kissing a big, awkward, stubby-chinned, tobacco- and bay-rum-scented thing like man

If you flatter a man, it frightens him to death, and if you don't, you bore him to death. If you permit him to make love to you, he gets tired of you in the end, and if you don't he gets tired of you in the beginning,

If you wear gay colors, rouge, and startling hats, he hesitates to take you out. If you wear a little brown toque and tailor-made suit, he takes you out and stares all evening at a woman in gay colors, rouge, and a startling hat.

If you are the clinging vine type, he doubts whether you have a brain. If you are the modern type, an advanced and independent woman, he doubts whether you have a heart. If you are silly, he longs for a bright mate, and if you are brilliant, he longs for a playmate. If you are popular with other men, he is jealous, and if you are not, he hesitates to marry a wallflower. If you please him, he seldom mentions it, but if you displease him, he never fails to tell you about it, especially if you are his wife.

    That's all. ~Unknown

(IMO, funny how some parts have changed and yet some things never do)

I agree, it's interesting how some things change with time and yet some things don't. Thanks for sharing that, I save old clippings too and peoples old not books etc.

Mis~ You must of course! You have a poets writing and style. You would love this one. It is so brown and old. It is cut from a paper (news) perhaps and it came from a black and white marbled notebook she had so full it would not close.

    Very neat find to me.

That definitely sounds like a find! There's a lot of old book store's here with shelves and shelves of books, mostly just books you can find anywhere but if you dig through the piles every now and again I find some really interesting journals and scrap books among the mess. I've spent hours looking, whenever I do find one it makes the time spent so worth the tedious job of rummaging on my hands and knees in piles of books- it's like I found a real treasure. I even have college essays and old handwritten song lyrics I saved that belonged to someone important to me.
