Dear Friends o'er the Pond [and any who love British comedy on the tele]:

I love RUMPOLE OF THE BAILEY. I first became acquainted Leo McKern in the flick LADYHAWKE and am grateful that our public library has an extensive collection of the inimitably poetic, barb-slinging barrister. Old Darling!
Anyway, he defends but does not prosecute. Ironically, I just watched an episode entitled RUMPOLE AND THE ALTERNATIVE SOCIETY, wherein he defends a young member of a commune. That certainly struck a responsive chord.
If he were a prosecutor, I wonder how he'd fare pitted in a case against Mother, "she who must be obeyed." At the very least, he would have the courtroom in stitches.

Apart from all the above folderol, do YOU have a favorite British comedy? [my real point, actually!]

It's taken me this long to try and remember which ones I liked. I think these four were my top of the classics:

    It Ain't Half Hot Mum.

    Dad's Army

Fawlty Towers (but that used to stress me out too - too much shouting and 'violence', too close to home )

    The Young Ones.
    The Fast Show.
    Bottom.
    Monty Python.
    Father Ted. (sorry, funkyderek)
    Les Dawson.
    The Two Ronnies.
    Blackbooks.
    Blackadder.

I've got the urge to start digging out videos now!

Fawlty Towers - I even bought the DVD set so I could read the subtitles because of trouble deciphering some of the accents. Just two days ago I had a Waldorf Salad and remembered how funny that episode was. Classic stuff.
