Let us go now, you and I
My soul, t'ward Sesach's bronzen gate
I shall stand upon the river bank
And shout toward the silent bronze:
    'I am indeed Lazarus
    Come back from the death
From the bowels of the earth.
This is my soul, snatched back from the sky
Together we have seen it all
One lip to Hell, and one to the stars
    I shall tell you all
Though I am a man, bandaged and blind.'

'I have seen the carving on the wall
For I am also Daniel the Wise
Come here to proclaim you all
The riddled script, the numbered days
Strange dreams of statues and stones
And trees and beasts that came
Out of water now dried up.'

'For three days I have tasted
No water, as I lay into the grave
I am a man, bandaged and blind
    But water there was none.'

    'I remember
    The Babylonian court
There was food in due season
    and many a changing dish
    For I have tasted all.'

'For three days I have seen
That sun and moon stood still in the sky
    Death is nothing more than
A standing still of the sky.'

    'I remember
    The vast library of Babel
The Chaldean priests in white robes
    Searching through the books
    Containing every combination
Of symbols - there I found
    The book of seventy years
    Wherein was written
The word that opens Sesach's gate.'

Again the gate of Sesach opens
And a man, bandaged and blind
Wades through the dried up river
    Towards the Gate of God.

    Thanks!

To quote Eliot, this is just my piece of 'rhytmical grumbling' :)

@Brigid - you win the intertextuality reward!

Apart from the Biblical allusions that must be clear, did you find the allusions to Borges and the Ugaritic Baal Cycle as well?

And the REAL meaning of Sesach/Babel? :)

I thought I might use this forum to write more.. critical comments are always appreciated.

Amazing. You must publish that. Incredible. I'm not worthy of criticism.
