I was wondering whether anyone here is within the FM transmission distance of the conventions. If so, would you be prepared to record and host the talks ?
Long shot, but you never know ?

Thats an interesting idea, i dont live close enough (un)fortunately though.
I think the transmission is extremely weak. When I was skipping out early, I remember seeing an elderly lady who set up a chair outside the building wearing headphones. She had a radio in her hands with an antenna about 3 feet long.
She was waving the radio and antenna around in a fashion that made me think she was being attacked by a pack of bees, but realistically I think she was having difficulty tuning in the broadcast.
Most MP3 players have the ability to record from radio, but usually they record in .wav format which is 10x larger than .mp3. If you attend, you could just keep a MP3 player in your pocket and tape some of the juicy bits.
That said, I realize that there's not much on TV over the summer, but how bored do you have to be before you consider assembly material for listening pleasure? :)
oh god! when did they start broadcasting this shit?
Like every year, since I will be attending the convention, I will try to record the whole thing on my MP3. Mine does record to wmv but can convert to MP3 on my PC. Would someone be willing to host the files?
We can upload them to filesend or similar. That'd be great.
Not for pleasure, but to hear them "filling in the gaps" and saying things that they would never put in print.
Not all the DC sites are broadcast, but it'd good to give it a go.
This site: http://www.filesend.net/ allows free uploads and downloads and no registration is required. If you have any problems, post or send a PM.
Not all DC locations are broadcasting, but it usually they make an announcement about the frequency at the start of the first day.

Usually you get great reception from the parking lot (closer to the building the better).
Simply set up in the parking lot and let it record. If you are nervous about that, you might be surprised how many JW "enjoy" the program from the comfort of their vehicles. If you are bugged by an attendant, just tell him you have a back injury or some other excuse.
Yeah... they usually put up a Part 15 License free FM station. Or, (if I recall correctly), they will file with the FCC to broadcast using low-power on a certain frequency, and as long as it doesn't interfere with other licensed services, they can get permission to do it.
They use low power like about 10 watts or so, and so at those frequencies (FM radio), they can only cover a mile or so - which is usually within the arena. (Why they don't want to get further is beyond me).
I would be more interested in 'jamming' their broadcast, rather than receiving it. Of course... that's not really 'legal'... heh heh heh
