I had known him for thirty five years, he was part of our R/C flying group. He was 81 years old. I hope I have 10 more years to go flying my R/C planes.

Sorry to hear about your friend. The following poem was written by a fighter pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and who died in aerial combat during WWII. I post it here in honor of your friend. Sorry about the formatting. Respectfully, poppers

    High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds,
    and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of -
    wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, nor even eagle flew –
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high, untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

He had served in WWII. He worked on torpedos. Some of them weren't exploding and he had to try and find the problems before they were shot from the sub. I think he may have been from Polish ancestry.

I am so sorry for your loss Ken.

I tell you, I so admire and respect our elder friends and family. Some people are just gifted at passing on to others their wisdom and their lessons of life. I have been blessed by several people in my life, who I think of everyday, and thank God for what they have shared with me. I am accomplished in gardening, animal husbandry, history, religion, child rearing, and relationships to name but a few, all by friends and family long passed who took the care and time to teach me.

Those precious times and people live in my heart forever, and I am a better person because I knew them.
