But on page 43 of the 1991 "Flock Book", here's how the Society encourages those who give public talks to "regularly work toward improving their teaching ability" ...

    1. Do thorough research in the Society's Publications to bring the material to life. (how can you thoroughly research a pack of lies with no references? Lies don't need any more animation do they?)

    2. Be sure your outline is kept current(sound advice). Periodically update your statistics, experiences, illustrations and so forth.

HOWEVER, the book-holder noted the following in the margin:

Do not use any experiences that are not published in the Society's publications. NO INTERNET DATA.

I'm really not surprised by that note. So much for keeping current ....

If my talks in the bad old days had contained no additional info from secular sources, they would have been more boring than they probably were anyway. I would have been bored ..maybe thats why speakers are so lifeless these days. It is also a charter for the lazy speaker who just trots out the same old talk that he has given for decades.

If they ban internet data, that excludes all the major reference works that are online.....Mind you I did remonstrate recently with a speaker who enthusiastically told his audience that Noah's Ark had positively been photographed on Ararat ...He told me that it was definite because he read in on the net

    NO INTERNET DATA.

I believe this is mainly is a reference to personal experiences found on the internet that have been circulated via email.

That is a sure way to guarantee that the talks are going to be biased. Once you start banning outside references and sources, you now ensure that the product is going to be based on only your own material. With nothing to refute it, there is nothing to stop it from containing self-serving material, blatant lies, and truths taken totally out of context. The best talk is one based on fully integrated honesty, which cannot be taken out of context.

Using the Internet and other sources helps to keep things in fully integrated honesty. In fact, the more sources you use, the better it is going to be. Comparing older publications with the latest is another way to keep things honest: If they messed up, they should be owning up to it now instead of purging them. And, if the Internet reveals places where they messed up and are still messing up, then maybe they should be making sure that what they teach really is Scriptural or stop claiming to be representing the Scriptures. Otherwise, they are going to be misleading everyone even to the point of starting another Dark Ages (which the Catholic church did when they successfully got control of all sources and knowledge).
