I want to see this! I read about this event years ago. It's even alluded to in the very first Sherlock Holmes story, "A Study in Scarlet".
But a lot of people, even in the US, have never heard about it.

Great book on the subject: Sally Denton's American Massacre: The Tragedy at Mountain Meadows, Septemer 1857. Denton is a wonderful historian of the American West; her newest book, on John C. Fremont and his wife, was reviewed in the NY Times.
My greatgrandfather, before his death, said that when he was a child the reason why the Mormans were chased out of the area he lived was because of this. The Mormans were bad about stealing women. They would go in and kill the husbands (if they were home at the time of the raids), and kidnapp the wives. It happened to his very own mother when he was little. But in her case her husband not home, but was close. He was able to gather together some of the neighbors and was able to get his wife back, along with their son.
