I told him that speaking in the tongues was done away with!

He said prove that one! At the time, I couldnt!

What was I going to tell him! Prior to 1932 the J.W. spoke in,utterances, tongues! but it was done away with as the flash of light became brighter?

It's all about what you believe. If you believe its done away with, then naturally you will not have this gift.

Be assured that the gift was not done away with for Pentecostals. Oh, and it was also not done away with because the Watchtower said it was. You haven't been reading Thus Spake the Watchtowerustra, have you?

One of my post was about Jehovah Witnesses speaking in tongues. I think some of you missed my point!

I should have spoken in Latin! like one of the 11 apostles. :-)

Still when Jehovah's Witnesses claim it was done away with there is a double meaning! Most would think scriptures, however for the WTBTS it was in 1932. Todays, publishers are sooo unaware of it!

Sarah - WHAT??? I'm totally unaware the witnesses thought it was OK to speak in tongues prior to 1932. I've never come across that info, so if you would be so kind as to direct me to the literature(or book or whatever) that discusses it, I would be most grateful. This has become an issue with several x-jw's I know.

    latin - LOLOL

    Thank you, Sarah

It reminds of a program I saw last night about a pentecostal group who not only believe they can talk in languages but also that they can be immune from poisons hence they drink water containing strychnine a potent nerve poison and handle venomous snakes which at times bite them.

They looked to me like a bunch of lunatics but at least none of their members was forced to do these things if they didn't want to. In my opinion they are taking the corresponding poison antidotes before engaging in these activities though they wouldn't admit as much.

    Watkins here are the quotes!

“The identification of the great multitude has not heretofore been clear to those creatures on earth who served God. Now, however, we see that the great multitude could not be identified by the followers of Christ Jesus until the coming of the Lord to the temple. Evidently John, being in doubt, propounded the question as to the identity of the great multitude. Had he known, he would not had asked the question.”

What are these which are arrayed In white robes?

And hence came they? Revelation 7:13.

“The fact that an elder propounds the question show that the question was not settled prior to the bringing of the church to maturity in Christ, which time is marked by the cleansing of the temple of sanctuary, which did not take place until 1932.” (Daniel 8:14) Riches page 313. .

“Prior to the coming of the Lord Jesus to the temple many of the followers of Christ Jesus, and particularly the “elective elder” company, though themselves to be teachers and interpreters of prophecy, including the prophecy of the Revelation. It was not an unusual thing during the Elijah period of the church to see at conventions some “leading brother” with a group around him, while he was looking wise and expounding his “recently discovered interpretation: of some prophecy, particularly the Revelation. “They had every man of any prominence in the church foretold by the prophetic utterances and were giving much praise and adulation to some of these.”Riches 315.

    Today!

“Yes the elder could locate the answer and give it to John. This suggest that the resurrected ones of the 24-elders group may be involved in the communicating of divine truths today. For their part, those of the John class on earth got to learn the identity of the great crowd closely observing what Jehovah was performing in their midst. They were quick to appreciate the dazzling flash of divine light that emblazoned the theocratic firmament in 1935, at Jehovah’s due time.”

“During the 1920s and early 1930s the John class had stressed the heavenly hope both in the publication and in the preaching work. But increasing numbers of those who needed the message and who showed zeal in the witness work came to profess an interest in living forever in the Paradise earth. They had no desire to go to heaven.” Revelation Book page 124, study paragraph 17.
