Hi
Thanks Mrs Jones 5
My daughter is reading 1984 as part of her A Level studies and I read this section out loud for her yesterday and the similarities with the Governing Body and the Society in general are uncanny.
Luckily for me my daughter can see through it. As I said to my mother at my last KH meeting:''The only way to stay a JW is not to think.''
Thanks

I almost read 1984 when I was in high school many years ago. If I had, it could have saved me 42+ years of subserviance to the WT "big brother." But maybe I still wouldn't have been smart enough to figure it out. Not long ago a speaker at the KH made reference to this book and applied it, like most do, to worldly governments.
I've been guilty of Crime Speak myself.
I read "1984" in high school and my parents also had a copy of "Animal Farm" (I don't think they ever read it, maybe they thought it was a childrens' novel?) which I've read too but it took me until my early 20's to get the connection. Maybe that's where my nagging doubt started.

P.S. I also saw the movie in 1984 and I have the soundtrack album by the Eurymthics
