The congregation I am in generally organizes high school graduation parties for young JW's, but they frown on anyone going to college, hence no college grad parties.

Are there any of you out there whose congregation organized a college graduation party for someone?

Nope, but when my sister and I graduated from college our parents took us out to dinner.

I'm not surprised. If they took graduation parties away, dubs would probably be more psychotic.

Don't know about now, but when I graduated (many moons ago) my own parents didn't come the graduation. They instead went to the A**embly I guess they were really proud of me, huh?

So no, no graduation parties that I know of.

A lot of high school graduation parties and some technical school graduation parties, but never anything past that. Kinda crazy, isn't it? It is like you have to hide your degree in shame. I went back to college and finished my degree as a dub. I had started it after high school, but quit when I became a good dub.

They didn't give me any party though. They just said it was a shame that I hadn't been out door knocking more lately.

Hi choosinglife, I know how you feel. I was embarassed to even say I was going to college. I soon got over it though.

    I've never heard of one.

I have heard of parties for kids geting their GED though. While I admire any adult who made the mistake of dropping out of school and then going back at a later date and getting their GED, I think it's ridiculous for a teenager to chose to drop out (usually for "theocratic reasons") and get their GED as an alternative to graduation. They mistakenly believe a HS diploma and a GED have the same weight. They most certainly do not.

On the college issue: You probably don't have to many graduation partys because:

1- Not many witnesses attend or graduate from college

2-Those who do, do it "under the radar"

What I have found is that when my kids where asked: "what are you going to do after HS?" and they answered: "go to college", they were met with blank stares or a luke warm: "oh, that's nice". So I think a graduation pary would not be well received.
