Q: How many members of the Governing Body does it take to change a light bulb?

A: The light bulb does not need to be changed. The light bulb, in an antitypical way, represents the light that emanated from the Most Holy, from between the cherubs atop the Ark of the Covenant. That light represented the glory, favor, and presence of the Almighty God, Jehovah. In like manner, that light continues to shine just as brightly now as it did then, as Jehovah directs his beam of glory and favor upon his chosen people through His designated channel, the "faithful and discreet slave." (Matt 24:41, 42)

While the light may appear to grow dim from time to time, sheeplike ones will find, by prayerful supplication and heartfelt examination, that any apparent "dimming" is the result of the 'smog' or 'filth' from this system of things that they have allowed to contaminate the lenses of their spiritual glasses.

With this in mind, continued effort should be exerted by all to keep their spiritual glasses clean and streak-free. How can we do this?

Astute ones will remember that the light has not changed, and the answer is the same as it has always been: we can keep the 'light bright' in our lives by regular meeting attendance, personal study, and attendance with meaningful participation at all of our Christian meetings. From time to time, of course, the faithful slave has seen fit to move the 'lamp' to another location in the room, providing a different 'angle' of light. But note that the light itself has not changed.

Furthermore, moving the light from one location to another has an added benefit, one so wonderful only our Great Provider of Light could have foreseen it: the change in angle of the light when it is moved allows it to penetrate our spiritual glasses through sections that have not become hazy or streaked, thus alerting us to the fact that the light had started to 'appear' dim, and this 'new light' allows us to take action now to clean our spiritual glasses, before it is too late.

In this way, what was 'old light' becomes 'new light', and yet is, really, still the same 'old light.' What a wonderful provision from our heavenly Father, the "source of all celestial light"!

I must be bored. Heard somebody say "new light" at work, and it made me think of "new light" from a JW perspective, and I had this funny question "How many GB members does it take to change a light bulb" pop into my head, and I wrote this up. I swear I never wrote for the WT, but this sure sounds like it would have come from a QFR. Writing something like that is a testament to what 35 years in the borg will do to your mind!

    TJ,

I thought I was reading one of Deaconbluez' Questions from Readers parodies when I read your post.

It sounds like reasoning we used to hear from Freaky Freddie.

The advertising industry doesn't miss a trick does it?

Can you believe the banner ads are trying to sell us light bulbs at the top of this thread? LOL

Great post! Is it live or memorex? I would love to hear about someone who still gives talks and posts here and their experience of using Iamclearedtoland's post as an illustration in a talk. I would bet anything that the R&F would fall all over themselves to congratulate the speaker on "such an encouraging illustration". If this is used, I guarantee it will be in a talk at an assembly within a year. Fantastic! Please, someone do this. I would, but I don't go anymore. I may go back just so I can use this! Not one word need be changed either. It is so over the top that they would buy it hook line and sinker. Tears may actually fall at the encouragement this would bring to many. I love it! Who has the brass knockers to use it!? I want a full report.

It is a strange celestial father that can not correctly inform his children of what exactly he wants them to believe and practise or likes to play around with them giving them the wrong ideas many times before deciding to give them the right one. Or is it the channels that have a problem with receiving the right info?

    Ditto what exwitless said.
