Are you getting emails from the ChristianWitness group?

I got an email inviting me to join a "Christian Witness" group of apparently Christian-oriented X-JWs. Has anyone else gotten one? Like many of you here, I no longer have any desire to be involved with anything even remotely approaching organized religion. My concern in receiving this email is that someone apparently either thought or hoped I did, and as a consequence, provided my email address to someone I don't know without my knowledge or permission. I asked the sender to please provide the email address of the person who provided him my address, in fairness, so that I could ask them to no longer give out my email address without my permission. We have had three email exchanges and he refuses to provide this. I reminded him that Jesus taught we should treat others the way we would like to be treated. If I had solicited him to join an agnostic group, wouldn't he want to know who had provided me with his email address, so that he could ask them to cease and desist? I would appreciate it if a few of you would contact him and let him know what you think about this kind of behavior. His name is Joe and his email address is: jmasonemerson-at-yahoo-dot-com

Unless you post your email address in a post here on JWD it's not public so he could not have gotten it from JWD like I said unless you posted it and he nabbed it.

Thanks for the warning to others about him!

If you've gotten an email from this person and do not wish to receive more put his address in your spam filter or block filter that your email subscriber offers, makes it easy to never receive emails from him again.

Joe Mason Emerson has had JWD accounts in the past, but disregarded the posting guidelines against spamming other members.

If memory serves, he has a Yahoo group from whence cometh the emails, so if you've ever signed up for his Yahoo group and don't wish to receive email from him, you'll need to unsubscribe from his group, or block his emails in your email program.

No, I've never belonged to any Yahoo group. He said that my email address was provided by someone who thought I'd be interested. Sure I can stop email from him, but not from any others this person may provide my email address to. Just wanted to be able to tell them please stop. Oh well.

It's pretty poor netiquette for someone to pass on your email address to someone else without your permission. However, I have noticed that this is an underhanded tactic that these unethical trollers utilize to boost their email lists' numbers.

Once I left a message at AJWRB with my email address included, and before I knew it, spammers like J. Mason Emerson and his ilk, glommed onto it and started including my email address in THEIR newsletter, as though I was giving my endorsement of their group, when in fact, I wanted nothing to do with them.

The moral of the story is: Be very careful about the sites where you post your email address where they can be viewed by the general internet audience.
