I read COC 15 years ago and it was an eye opener, but feel I must have read it through JW veiled thinking.

After reading the updated version it left my brain reeling. The comparison of the UN debacle with what happened to the Mexico/Malawi episode explains a lot.

I remember so many of the rules that came down to the rank and file while I was growing up. The reminder of the 1975 horsesh*t was nausiating...I lived through it, was DF'd the first week of January 1975 and then it was reversed in March of 1975. My parents were desperate to save my 16 year old life. It took 3 months for The Society to respond to my parent's letter. A District Overseer brought my case in front of an entire Circuit of Elders of how not to handle a disfellowshipping. Wow, I would now survive Armageddon in the fall of 1975.

Out of all the elders involved, (7) on the original plus (5) on the appeal committee, one came and apologized to my parents but not to me. That made a big difference to me, that someone would admit they were wrong. This is where the "Society" has gone wrong big time. (The apple does not fall far from the tree)

The final slap...because they have turned themselves into an intangible entity, they no longer need to take personal responsibility for their decisions or make amends to those they are lording it over, and all the more so because this elusive group has proclaimed themselves to be God's Channel.

The writing style also has not changed much from Rutherford's day.

    I am sickened beyond belief.

If you haven't read COC in awhile, I would suggest re-reading it. I am still waiting for his newest book, "In Search of Christian Freedom" to be delivered.

Sorry if I've made this too personal and simplistic.

I read both in the last month or so (since I began posting here) and they really opened my eyes and helped me along in the grief process. Ray Franz is so kind and humble. The fact that he is not bitter was amazing to me and made me take a hard look at myself. Pedophiles and Malawi really put me over the edge. MUST READS for everyone here IMHO.

Mine came in the post today and I've started reading it. I'm getting through the last pages of God is not Great too, then I can give COC my full attention. I don't need it for any personal help, but it should still be interesting and I'll be able to bring up some points with the JWs I know.

I read it about 7 years a go but I don't think it discussed the UN thingy, maybe its time for a revisit.

If it hadn't been for those two books, I would likely still be looking around the Great Hall, mouth wide in awe as I saw the Wizard-Hologram in the air and wondering, 'Just where the Hell did Todo get to now?'
