I attended the honors fraternity meeting today, and evidently they are involved with CASA. This group works with foster kids. Has anyone else worked with this group? What did you think? I'm seriously considering getting involved.

I feel it is a very good program, and I love that they take training so seriously. The biggest problem I have seen develop has been that some CASA have become a little extreme on their judgements leading to untenable recommendations. There is no perfect parent or perfect foster parent.

So, how much of their work is devoted to making recommendations and how much is being a mentor to these kids?

Anything that helps kids is admirable.

    Good luck, JD!

...I used to be President of C.A.S.A. - (Commodore Amiga's of San Antonio)... actually, I founded the group.

...or are you talking of some other group? *weak grin*

I'm a member of the Board of Directors of CASA of Northeastern Kentucky.

CASA is a wonderful organization. I would like to BE a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), but for the time being I'm just helping with fundraisers and such as a member of the Board.

Ah, didn't realize it was an acronym. I was thinking of the Spanish word. What interested me is that evidently each volunteer is only assigned to one kid. That brings it to a more personal basis where you get to know them and what they need and also puts you in a position to make recommendations to the judge. The time requirement was 10 to 15 hours per month. Looks like a great way for people to get involved with doing a tangible good thing for kids in need.
