Do JW's Worship the Human Will?

In Colossians the 2nd chapter there is a phrase in the KJV that captures the character of JW life.

20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments F12 of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, 21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship

In other words, JW's place the proverbial square peg over the round hole and through will power alone force it in. Never mind the destruction caused in the process. They pride themselves in their ability to fill lots of holes (rules).

By contrast, Jesus said that his load was light and that he'd do the heavy lifting with you under the yoke. I've found that he's a man of his word.

    He is the coolest!

Well, this is the "light" load:

    • Get up early for street work, making sure to get to the Kingdumb Hell at 5:30 in the morning.
    • After street work, get back to the Kingdumb Hell at 9:00 for regular door to door work. You will be out there in the heat of the day most of the day.
    • Studying the Puketower material. You have to prepare for the meetings by reading the material beforehand. No outside references, remember.
    • Preparing at least one talk every couple of months.
    • Going to meetings three times a week, two of them are 2 hours and the other, one hour. At least one of them will keep your children up way past their bedtime on a school night, usually the one just before major unit tests.
    • Cleaning the Kingdumb Hell. Also, volunteering at A$$emblies.
    • Donating all your "spare" (=what they feel you could do without) money to the Kingdumb Hell and the Mother Organization.
    • Planning your "vacation" for that summer wastefest. Calling all the motels to find a room. The waste of about $250 or more to get there.
    • Staying abreast of the next ban so you will be able to quit your job and get a [lower paying] replacement on a moment's notice.
    • Staying on top of research (Watchtower material only) for your students (of which you should have dozens).
    • Ratting out anyone you see doing anything that the Tower bans, of which there is an endless supply.

This is supposed to be a light workload. And they call celebrating holidays a burden! At least you get some actual joy out of putting up lights that you enjoy, sending and receiving gifts and cards, and the music.

There is an antinomy present in any discussion of doing God's will by willing yourself to do so.

What is the point in having a will if you bend it to others?

    Excellent thought!

Are you able to do your own will?

    Jesus asked these probing questions:

You who say do not lie...do you lie? You who say do not steal...do you steal? You who say do not commit adultery...do you commit adultery?

How has living by your own "will" been working out for you?

I think in time (hopefully real soon) that will be recognised, a lot has to happen first. Just because (some or all, God knows) those at the top have proven to be false shepherds, doesn't mean all of JW are like what you imply sir. Their is a huge change happening within the congregations, that is people and some are well aware of what has happened and WHY and what will take place according to the scriptures, those that understand Gods word also know and look forward to the cleaning out of the organization. Just like Jesus prophesied that the evil slave would reside with the faithful slave. It was happening in the 1st century and today is no different. We await Christs return.
