"If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way."

I like that - quite right. How many people did we meet when we used to 'Witness', who would have strong beliefs based on nothing more than feelings, or instincts ..They feel an emotion and invent a belief to coincide and support it.
Many dubs are the kind of people that do not like those who disagree with them, they believe the world should all believe the same as them and act the same way. Would not the world be better if they were not here? ...So Armageddon will
destroyslaughter them all - wonderful ! such "good news"This quote is one I like too :-
"The easiest thing of all is to DECEIVE one's self; for what a man wishes he generally believes to be TRUE." Demosthenes
383 or 384 A.C. Athens

Our whole understanding of the world is based on myth,, we view what is outside us with the imagination and yet we uses mythology,, for what we view as outside us purely imaginary for we only see it through the mind which we often imagine as inside us what we see or perceive as outside us, isn't it myth some of us believe and some of us disagree with more or less. Science is forming our mythology,,, even with all its discoveries changing the way we look at the world?

The origin of myths are rooted in human ignorance, science is trying to relieve us of that ignorance
In the opposite religion is structured and formed on myths, therefore supports and maintains that ignorance
