Did anyone see Law and Order SVU, Friday night? (if someone else posted this already, let me know.......I've been off the board a few days)

There was a serial rapist whose DNA they wanted, to compare with the victims. When they approached him with the swab, to get a sample, he leaned back and said it violated his religious beliefs to give a DNA sample, because he was a Jehovah's Witness. He was obviously only saying that to avoid the situation, and was NOT a dub, and everyone knew it, but it was pretty funny to me, that he used that excuse. Especially because he preyed on young girls (13-14).

Before the turn of the century, the papers were called Tabloids, Chronicles, Gazettes, etc. Most had local stories and far away stories were quite old as it took awhile for stories to travel ( and of course they were subject to changes from hand to hand. With the event of the teletype, stories could be broadcast all over at unheard of speed. Several of the papers started carrying a section with stories from all over - North, East, West, & South and that's why they are called Newspapers.

    Sorry Mulan - missed it!
Off topic - the new Richard Dreyfuss TV show Max Bickford last night had a theme about shunning in it. (Editor of the college newspaper wanted to shun any female student who would consent to pose in a Playboy type magazine). One of the professors said she would not support shunning, because she had been through it before in a religious setting. She did NOT say, JW's, but the implication screamed JW. Dreyfuss character also lumped in shunning with religious fundy cults.

Pretty good show - have seen it twice now.

    Warm regards,

JW's have been brought up on tv shows several times in the past 6 mos.

The practice - letting her daughter die with no blood (daughter lives......finally).

West Wing - "The Taliban is to Muslims like ........... are to Christians?" First answer - Jehovah's Witnesses. Some chuckling, then the more proper answer - KKK.

Now Law & Order - equating a rapist with being a JW.

These are all forward-thinking shows depicting JW's as radicals, to say the least.

How interesting. Maybe the West Wing can bring the UN & WTBTS thing in, eh?

Hey Makena, I haven't seen that show, but will have to look for it. I am addicted to Law and Order shows. The injustice of the legal system is so intriguing to me.

I remember seeing so many shows in the past that mentioned the witnesses. A Golden Girls episode was really funny, where all the gals can't sleep and are up, in the middle of the night, eating cheescake, when the doorbell rings. One of them says, "who on earth would that be, at this hour?" Dorothy, the brassy one, says "Probably Jehovah's witnesses on a coffee break." We were witnesses then, but just died laughing. Most of the time, when those comments were made, they were very fitting.

JW's were brought up in a more appropriate forum on Sunday, Comedy Central. The Comedian was blasting everyone, not just JW's. Her comment on JW's went something along the lines of how nice they were, since they believed only 144,000 would make it to heaven and still they go door to door trying to convert more. She said in a secret hand shake reserved for the last convert he said "You're lucky, I hear there's only 8 seats left"

I thought it was funny anyhow.
