An Opp pastor's son is charged with attempted rape and the victim's parents claim the church tried to cover up the crime. Paul and Ronna Therrell serve in the music ministry of the First United Methodist Church in Opp. They say the pastor's son sexually assaulted their autistic daughter a year ago. At the time of the alleged incident the girl was 12 and the boy was 14.

The Therrells say they did not go to the police because they expected the church to deal with the matter internally. Ronna Therrell says, "I was hoping someone would contact me and ask me if what we needed, tell me they were sorry this happened to my daughter. And ask if we needed to be moved to another church."

In response, Church District Superintendent Frederick Outlaw says quote, "We were told that the problem was being worked out between the two families and that no official complaint was even filed with the church.

The parents filed a criminal complaint last week and just Wednesday the Covington County District Attorney charged the pastor's son with attempted rape.

Alabama and Tennessee also have a high divorce rate.

Just more proof that cousins shouldn't get married to each other.

Yes - this sort of thing happens in a lot of venues, not just Jw's.

But it should happen far less among 'God's chosen people'. It appears to happen at least as often if not more.

I hate it when people are hurt in the name of righteousness, no matter the organization.

It's unthinkable that parents wouldn't use all means at their disposal legitimate or not to help at least their children if not also other close relatives, to get out of trouble. It happens in religion and politics.

I hate religion too, all of it, not just organized religion. I remember some JW book that talked about ministers and priests hanging from the lampposts. If they add the governing body, it would make more sense. Religion is responsible for more grief in the world than anything else I can think of except just plain greed.
