This reminds me of the Hungarian revolt against Communist rule in 1956 that I read about. They were violently put down, and the world took notice. The Time magazine "man of the year" for 1956 was "the Hungarian Freedom Fighter" as a group.

The communist way of dealing with opposition. Send in the army to crash the protesters, they never bother to listen to their complaints.
I am surprised the Chinese condemned so intensely the crackdown by the military against democratic demands in that country.
