Comet loses it's tail from a CME (video)

Earlier this year, Comet Encke was passing a little too close to the Sun when a coronal mass ejection (CME) hit the comet and ripped off its tail. NASA's STEREO spacecraft was watching and recorded it.

That is the first time a comet losing it's tail has ever been recorded.

I would guess they would considering they are outgassing from the time they pass jupiter. The video shows some material being thrown off immediately after the tail blow off.
Of course if it's an American comet it would first try to apply for disability benefits. It would also have a t-shirt made up saying "gaseous tail amputee survivor" and then do the tv talk show circuits.
