Was she DF'd or wasn't she?

Way back in highschool, I was best friends with a dub girl in my class (we were the only two dubs at school, in the same standard, so we had to be best friends). She was a good girl back then, pioneering every school holiday etc. When we left school, we carried on hanging around together for a few months, and started associating with a not so kosher crowd in the cong. She hit a rebelious streek of note (as did I). She landed up moving far away, being df'd and getting on with her own life, whilst I did a bit of a fade myself and just stopped attending meeting and avoided the elders like anything. I haven't seen or heard from her in years!

So, on my way to work this morning, I stopped to get something I needed from a store en route to my shop. At the counter I see a guy standing, waiting for his purchase to be packaged. I remember him from way back when - he was married to my highschool best friend's sister , and he and his wife are very good friends with a cousin of mine.

I debated whether I felt like saying hi, and then thought what the hell, let me say hello. We made eye contact and I greeted him. He greeted me... hesitantly. I could almost see the questions flashing through his mind... can I greet her or cant I? Was she disfellowshiped or wasn't she? I made him even more uncomfortable by making conversation - he didn't know what to do with himself. I could just picture him running out to his car to phone his wife and find out whether or not I was DF'd.

Ahh nothing like paranoia in the morning.

Question? Did you ever here back from your "bethelite" sister?

Until word got around that I am a flaming, card-carrying member of the 'Apostates 'gainst Jeehoobeee' I used to get those looks too.

The JW couldn't make up their mind whether to reply or drop their groceries and run screaming out of Wal-Mart when I said, "Hi, whazzup, dude?"

    Princess,

You have to remember this: His EVERLASTING LIFE was at stake. If he mistakenly said hi to somebody who was "officially banned by the Watchtower", Jehovah would get him at Arma-Arma-Arma-geddon! The thought is scary!

It is nice to know that today I can talk to anyone that I want too. Freedom is a great thing!

Yknot - in answer to your question, the last update I heard from my sister was that the court date was postponed - so no breaking news yet... will keep you all informed though. I am seeing my family tomorrow night for dinner, so I will see if there is any bethal news/gossip worth reporting. I feel like a super spy!

I love hearing the stories of "avoiding apostates or DF'ed ones."

Some of them go so far out of their way to the point of looking ridiculous to avoid people.
Your encounter, he actually seemed fairly normal.

I have every intention of being friendly to JW's I encounter if I am ever shunned by them.
